Carter was discovered dead at his home in Lancaster, according to TMZ, after allegedly drowning in his bathtub.

According to the Los Angeles County Fire Department, officials responded to a drowning just before 11 a.m. in the 42000 block of Valley Vista Drive.

Carter rose to prominence as a child star, first as a singer, then as an actor in films and television shows such as "Lizzie McGuire" and "7th Heaven."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, he opened for the Backstreet Boys on a 1997 tour, and he did the same for Britney Spears.

Carter's sophomore album "Aaron's Party (Come Get It)," released in 2000 and certified triple platinum, is perhaps his most well-known work.
