She will not be forgotten, according to Clain, who called her "a wonderful writer and a brave, original person."

Powell's "Julie & Julia: 365 Days, 524 Recipes, 1 Tiny Apartment Kitchen," published in 2005, became a bestseller.

"Cleaving: A Story of Marriage, Meat, and Obsession," her second and final album, was unsettling in its candour.

Powell disclosed that she had an affair, experienced the misery of loving two men at once, and enjoyed sadomasochism.
